Turning an idea into a Business

Do you have an idea that you’re thinking about starting a business with? The Hoosier Heartland Small Business Development Center is conducting a seminar for anyone interested in starting their own business. Our advisor will provide a foundation for you to help determine if your business idea is feasible, and if so, the next steps you should take. A feasibility workbook will be provided.

Pre-registration and payment are required BEFORE the seminar. Registration deadline is 3:00 p.m. 24 hours prior to the seminar. Registration fees are $25.00, and are refundable if you cancel 24 hours before the seminar; otherwise, fees are non-refundable. Lunch will not be offered, but participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and drink if they wish.

Business Plan Basics

Are you considering starting your own business or have you recently started a new small business? The Hoosier Heartland Small Business Development Center, in partnership with the SCORE office of Lafayette has a workshop for you! Writing a business plan helps you focus on developing strategies for your long term growth and success. We will look at the components of a good plan ,including financial projections. A business planning workbook will be provided.

How to Start Your Own Business

Starting a business involves planning, making key financial decisions and completing a series of legal activities. The Hoosier Heartland Small Business Development Center is pleased to be hosting a seminar for anyone interested in starting their own business. Our advisor along with a local banker, attorney, accountant and insurance agent will provide an overview of what it takes to start your own business. There will be time to answer your questions about licensing, permits, record keeping, marketing, planning and more, so join us for this informative session!

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:

  • Obtain Licenses and Permits
  • Register Your Business Name and Acquire a Tax ID Number
  • Understand the Legal issues of Owning Your Own Business
  • Evaluate the types of insurance that your business will need
  • Identify sources of potential funding for your business
  • Effectively market your new venture

Topics include Accounting/Budget, Business Financing, Legal Issues, Managing a Business, and Pre-business Planning.

Launching Your Own Business

The Hoosier Heartland Small Business Development Center (HHSBDC) encourages you to attend this informative seminar. You will learn how to evaluate your idea and understand the local market. Our advisor will discuss resources available to assist you in determining whether you should proceed with your new business idea, along with answering your questions about licensing, permits, record keeping, marketing, planning and more, so join us for this informative session! Participants receive a comprehensive workbook and free one-on-one business consultation upon completion of the course workbook. The advisor assists participants identify their personal objectives, skills, and resources; understand entrepreneurial characteristics; describe business ideas and target groups; and evaluate business feasibility.
